What’s New in Tech Wearables? The Speakerhat by Atari
Okay, so Atari’s trying something totally new and different. Forget video games, think outside the box….way outside the box and you get….the Speakerhat. The Speakerhat is the first product in Atari’s “Connected Life” product line. It’s powered by Audiowear.
So, what exactly is the Speakerhat? It’s exactly what it sounds like – a baseball hat with a built-in speaker in the bill of the cap. It also has a speaker that uses Bluetooth to connect to other devices. So, you can listen to music and receive phone calls all from your … hat. Yup, I said that.
The hat is reportedly thin, light and runs on a lithium-ion battery. It’s rechargeable and according to Audiowear will be a “new listening experience.” Atari is also promising a Multiplayer Mode for the Speakerhat, allowing multiple people to listen to a single audio stream. Sci-Fi movie buffs might be interested in the partnership between Atari and NECA to bring out a limited edition Blade Runner 2049 Speakerhat this fall.
And there’s good news for all you Speakerhat enthusiasts. Atari is looking for 10 lucky people to beta test their product. You can sign up at http://www.atarilife.com/contest.html if you are interested in being a tester. Beta tester packs are valued at $300 and include: a speaker hat, Atari T-shirt, Atari Flashback game collection for PS4 or XBox One and bragging rights as a beta tester.
Few other details are available such as pricing or even release date. I can’t picture these hats becoming the next big thing in tech wearables, but who knows. The wearable market is certainly in need of something other than fitness trackers and smartwatches. And, the Speakerhat is certainly a unique product.
