Not everyone likes to wear a Fitbit or other fitness tracker when running.  The way the silicone band feels on a sweaty wrist leaves something to be desired.  And, what about those days you go running and suddenly realize you forgot your fitness tracker?  Enter the smart shoe.  With the invisible tracker embedded in the soles of the shoes you no longer need to worry about forgetting or losing your wearable.  It is always there waiting for you when you lace up your shoes.

More and more smart shoes are appearing on the market, but the Under Armour Gemini 3 RE‘s are our favorite.  They have an accelerometer to record running metrics and Bluetooth connectivity that saves it all to an app so you can analyze your running stats.  The UA MapMyRun app syncs with the sensor in the shoe through your phone.  For those unfamiliar with MapMyRun, you can record your work out details including distance, pace, speed, elevation, calories burned and route traveled on an interactive map.  You can also share your running information with friends via email, Twitter or Facebook.  The app lets you challenge friends, join groups and stay connected to an online fitness community.  The shoes come with a one-year subscription to MapMyRun.

The shoes also have a pre-run jump test, called the Jump Around, so you can see how prepared your body is for running and the best intensity for your run.  This adds a level of personalized training we haven’t before seen in a digitally connected shoe.
